Europe's Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Secures Another Major Order: CATL and Solarpro Sign 2 GWh Cooperation Agreement

Recently, CATL and Solarpro, a leading renewable energy company in Eastern Europe, signed a 2 GWh cooperation agreement for the TENER sodium-ion battery energy storage system. The two parties plan to jointly deploy the first large-scale sodium-ion energy storage project in Central and Eastern Europe within the year, a move that will accelerate the comprehensive rollout of next-generation energy storage technology across the continent.

The CATL TENER sodium-ion energy storage system adopted in this collaboration features an ultra-long cycle life of up to 15,000 cycles, ensuring stable operation for 25 to 30 years. Moreover, its exceptional low-temperature performance, with a capacity retention rate as high as 92% at -20°C, makes it perfectly suited to withstand the harsh winter conditions in Eastern European countries like Lithuania, where temperatures can drop to between -15°C and -20°C.

As long-term strategic partners, CATL and Solarpro first collaborated in 2024, deploying a 150 MWh EnerC+ liquid-cooled energy storage system in Bulgaria. In May of this year, a 602 MWh zero-degradation TENER lithium-ion battery energy storage system, jointly developed by the two companies, was successfully connected to the Bulgarian power grid, contributing to a 10% increase in the country's total energy storage capacity. This latest signing marks an official extension of their partnership into the cutting-edge field of sodium-ion battery technology.
