Finnish Battery Company Donut Lab Claims to Launch the World's First Mass-Produced Solid-State Battery

At the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Finnish startup Donut Lab unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first fully solid-state battery.

Donut Lab states that the product has completed OEM mass production preparation and is initially paired with two models of electric motorcycles, the TS Pro and Ultra, from Verge Motorcycles.

According to reports, Donut Lab is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. Its core business focuses on the research and development of modular electric vehicle components, covering hub motors, battery modules, and control software. The company operates across multiple electric mobility sectors, including automotive, maritime, aerospace, and robotics.

The company was formerly a division of Verge Motorcycles, a Finnish electric motorcycle manufacturer, and was spun off into an independent entity at the end of 2024.

Verge also confirmed that the upgraded TS Pro model, featuring this solid-state battery, is set for official delivery in the first quarter of this year. It will become the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle powered by a solid-state battery.

Donut Lab’s solid-state battery boasts an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, which helps improve product range, reduce structural weight, and optimize design flexibility. In terms of charging performance, the battery supports a full charge in just 5 minutes and can safely complete full charge-discharge cycles without any upper charge limit.

Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, this solid-state battery shows significantly lower cycle capacity degradation, with a design cycle life of up to 100,000 cycles, offering a much longer practical lifespan than current technologies. On the safety front, it uses a non-flammable liquid electrolyte design, fundamentally preventing thermal runaway chain reactions and dendrite formation, thus eliminating the fire hazards associated with conventional batteries.

Donut Lab claims that the battery has passed extreme environmental testing: at temperatures as low as -30°C, its capacity retention is over 99%; in high-temperature conditions exceeding 100°C, the capacity retention is also above 99%, with no signs of fire, performance degradation, or other issues.
