A New Breakthrough in Zero-Carbon Shipping! CATL Launches the World’s First Integrated “Vessel–Shore–Cloud” Solution

Recently, CATL officially released its integrated “Vessel–Shore–Cloud” solution and announced strategic partnerships with several companies, including Jiangxi Pi Shipbuilding under Qinshi Group, Guangxi Pinglu Canal Group, and Chengrui Power. This marks a systematic breakthrough in CATL’s “Full-Spectrum Increment” strategy within the maritime transportation sector, establishing a complete industrial ecosystem that spans core hardware, business models, and intelligent management.

Launching the “Vessel–Shore–Cloud” Integrated Solution to Set a New Technical Standard for Maritime Transportation

To address key challenges in the adoption of electric vessels—such as high upfront costs, inconvenient energy replenishment, and complex operations—CATL has achieved three major technological advancements at the electric vessel system level:

  • On the vessel side: CATL introduced a “dual-circuit containerized power system,” completing the transition from “automotive-grade” to “marine-grade” standards. The product has obtained certifications from the world’s five major classification societies—China CCS, U.S. ABS, Norway DNV, Italy RINA, and France BV. With a redundant design, it fundamentally ensures long-term operational safety for vessels in humid, high-salinity environments.
  • On the shore side: CATL promotes two innovative models—“vessel–battery separation” and the “battery bank.” By operating batteries as independent assets and supporting them with charging and swapping networks, these models significantly lower the initial purchase threshold for shipowners and enhance the economic efficiency of electric vessels throughout their entire lifecycle.
  • On the cloud side: Leveraging the “Yunfan” platform and the “Beichen” system, CATL connects data across vessels, ports, and power systems, enabling comprehensive intelligent management and energy-efficiency optimization for vessel energy consumption, battery health, and navigation scheduling.

Partnering with Three Key Players to Build a Zero-Carbon Shipping Ecosystem

To accelerate large-scale deployment of its solutions, CATL has formed strategic partnerships with leading enterprises across major engineering projects, infrastructure, and shipbuilding, focusing on the development of a green shipping ecosystem:

  • Co-developing new vessel models with Pi Shipbuilding: By combining CATL’s power battery technologies with Pi Shipbuilding’s expertise in advanced composite materials and high-performance vessel manufacturing, both parties will jointly develop a new generation of green and intelligent vessels for the market.
  • Building a green corridor along the Pinglu Canal with Guangxi Pinglu Canal Group: Centered on this key project of the New Western Land–Sea Corridor, CATL and Guangxi Pinglu Canal Group will collaborate deeply on green and intelligent vessel construction and the development of a clean energy system for the canal, using zero-carbon technologies to support national strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Chengrui Power on port energy infrastructure: CATL and Chengrui Power will leverage their strengths in new energy and port electrification to jointly promote the construction and operation of port shore power systems, as well as intelligent charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, addressing the “last-mile” energy replenishment challenge in the large-scale adoption of electric vessels.

As of now, CATL has delivered nearly 900 electric vessels in total, with applications spanning inland river freight transport, coastal passenger services, and offshore auxiliary shipping. The launch of the “Vessel–Shore–Cloud” integrated solution, along with the series of strategic partnerships, represents a key step in CATL’s implementation of its “Full-Spectrum Increment” strategy and the development of an integrated land–sea–air zero-carbon energy ecosystem. Looking ahead, CATL will continue working closely with industry partners to drive the global shipping industry toward a greener, lower-carbon, and more sustainable future.
