BYD to Launch Solid-State Battery Models in 2027!

Recently, Li Ke, Senior Vice President of BYD, stated in an exclusive interview with the well-known Spanish automotive media outlet Carwow.es that the brand will launch its first mass-produced model equipped with solid-state battery technology next year.

In the interview, Li Ke candidly stated that batteries are the foundation of BYD's survival. All mainstream and cutting-edge battery technologies in the industry have been laid out in advance and deeply researched by BYD's R&D team, which has long been deeply engaged in various technology tracks, continuously refining core processes, and building a solid technological moat. "In the solid-state battery field, which has attracted much industry attention, BYD, with years of technological accumulation, firmly ranks in the industry's first tier. Whether in core technology reserves, process maturity, or commercialization progress, it is in a globally leading position."

Li Ke stated that fuel vehicles are running out of time. Since BYD launched its second-generation blade fast-charging technology, and with more and more fast-charging stations being built, BYD's pure electric vehicles no longer have range anxiety in China. Fuel vehicles have no future in China. Next year, BYD's fast charging will also begin to spread in Europe and other places, and then be promoted to the whole world. Other regions of the world may transition to new energy only a few years late, but the final outcome for fuel vehicles will be the same — they will be replaced by new energy vehicles represented by BYD.

Li Ke also revealed that it is expected that in July next year, China may introduce regulations related to L3 levels. BYD is deeply involved in this. BYD's intelligent driving team and intelligent driving technology are both firmly in the first tier and will actively embrace the arrival of the L3 intelligent driving era.

It is reported that BYD's Shenzhen Pingshan 2GWh pilot line was put into production in February 2026, and the Chongqing Bishan 20GWh-level production line is planned to be ready for production in the third quarter of 2026. The first batch of models to be equipped are pointed to the Yangwang U9 and the high-end version of the Han EV.

Previous information was that, as early as 2016, BYD internally finalized the sulfide all-solid-state route and officially launched dedicated research and development. In 2024, FinDreams Battery completed the pilot rollout of 60Ah automotive-grade all-solid-state cells and began conducting cell reliability and basic safety tests.

At the China All-Solid-State Battery Industry-University-Research Annual Conference in February 2025, Sun Huajun, CTO of FinDreams Battery, introduced to the public that it had completed material, cell, and system development as well as production line feasibility verification, and gave an overall plan of batch demonstration installation around 2027 and large-scale mass production around 2030.

In February 2026, the "BYD Investor Relations" official account rarely published a Q&A session answering BYD shareholder questions, focusing on responding to the R&D progress of battery technology routes including solid-state batteries. BYD stated, "In the solid-state battery field, the company has carried out exploration along multiple routes. Among them, sulfide solid-state batteries are expected to achieve breakthroughs in areas such as battery life and fast charging, and are an important technical direction. From the current R&D trend, sulfide solid-state batteries are expected to achieve small-batch production in 2027."
